Get Safe. Get Confident! Regular training in the Adult Self-Defence classes will build your awareness and self-control to enable you to handle dangerous & life-threatening situations, so that you can protect yourself and others. And as many students have testified, you will enjoy a conviction and confidence that will flow into your everyday personal and business life.

These Self-Defence classes cover primarily Krav Maga & Kinetic Fighting, and are your main training sessions that build up your skills, and knowledge following a curriculum that will help you achieve success. There are three Levels of classes: Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced. As you become more competent and pass your Level gradings, you can graduate into the higher-level classes.

Your level of strength, fitness, age, size or build will be no barrier for you to learn to protect yourself from bigger and stronger attackers – regardless of previous experience in martial arts or not. Minimum age of Adult classes is 16yo so you can train with mature training partners focusing on common problems, threats and street fighting.

You will find your own co-ordination, fitness and power will improve whilst training in our simple and effective self-defence system. So come meet new friends in a fun, challenging and motivating environment!

  • All techniques and drills performed in practical & realistic scenarios from different angles & directions

Krav Maga Training Class

Topic Class – Sparring

Sparring class runs separate but following every Krav Maga/Self-Defence level class. These are important classes that are often ignored in other Krav Maga schools, or done as an add-on drill at the end. Primal members are taught additional techniques and tactics not covered in class, including all the aspects of how to fight in a dynamic self-defence encounter – not necessarily focusing on the expectations or limitations of a sport or competition fight.

Sparring classes are split along the Self-Defence levels – so even if you are a complete novice you will still have an opportunity to grow your confidence and develop your skills learnt in classes. Not only are the sparring classes fun, but it is where you forge your mental resilience and sharpen your physical capabilities.

Sparring topics include:

  • Engaging with bigger & stronger attackers
  • Weapons in a fight
  • Employing & countering different fighting tactics
  • Reality-based environments
  • Grappling from standing & ground
  • Footwork, an essential but often neglected skill
  • Different fight scenarios, and drills
Primal Fitness CombatFit Class

Topic Class – CombatFit

Primal Performance & Fitness runs CombatFit group classes that run out of “Primal Underground Gym” in the CBD. These short and intense sessions focus on functional fitness through bodyweight movement, kettlebells, TRX and of course striking. CombatFit classes always have a different format and focus, with a varying array of challenging and engaging exercises to push your fitness and to “sharpen the spear” after forging it in the Self-Defence classes.

CombatFit classes along with other Topic Classes are included in all Training Passes under the “All-Access Membership”.
Members with a different membership, or no membership at all – but still want to take advantage of CombatFit classes after work in the CBD, can purchase a standalone CombatFit Flexi Pass.

Krav Maga Training Class

Topic Class – Striking

Striking class is dedicated to reviewing and getting more reps in with the most fundamental aspect of self-defence and fighting. This class teaches striking techniques for Krav Maga, with a lot of combo and pad work that focus on reality-based applications, and not just for sport fighting or fitness.
The class covers the striking curriculum from across all the Krav Maga levels, Fundamentals through to Advanced.

Striking classes along with other Topic Classes are included in all Training Passes under the “All-Access Membership”.

Krav Ground Fighting & Grappling

Topic Class –
Combative Grappling

This grappling class is also opened to all levels and is focused on standing & ground grappling. An ability that is important but isn’t frequently trained at all in other Krav Maga systems & schools. Primal students learn additional skills on how to appropriately deal with scenarios that end up grappling often in close-quarter environments.

This class goes into the expanded grappling curriculum from Krav Maga, Kinetic Fighting, and Jissen Budo. Employing many techniques similar to MMA, BJJ, and Wrestling, but keeping to the principles of reality-based self-defence & fighting.

Grappling classes along with other Topic Classes are included in all Training Passes under the “All-Access Membership”.

WHY? A common misconception is that by resisting an attacker, it will cause them to become more aggressive. In the moment of assault, one cannot know the extent of an attacker’s motives. A woman with Krav Maga training has options, should she choose to react to protect herself.

Learning self-defence empowers you with the confidence in knowing you have the right to be safe in your everyday life. It is similar to learning First-Aid – it is excellent to know just in-case, even though you hope to never need it.

HOW? Krav Maga is designed to work for anyone regardless of gender or size. However sometimes specific real-life threats and problems are more prevalent to women than to men. To build a women’s confidence and abilities, you are encouraged to train in regular classes with males and females. There you can learn how to overcome fear, increase your power, and deal with physically stronger attackers in a comfortable & supportive class atmosphere.

“Body Attack” & “Boxercise” are great for fitness but only Krav Maga teaches you how to protect yourself safely and assertively.

WHEN? Regular classes where males and females train together are great for building confidence in dealing with male assailants and real-life problems whilst still in a supportive and safe environment.  We also run Women’s seminars and short courses a few times a year so keep an eye out for when they are released.

WHY? Children are not as active these days as they once were. The benefits to an active lifestyle have been well publicised for a healthy & growing mind and body.

Our classes promote active and dynamic movements that help young bodies develop and improve their balance, agility, endurance, strength and coordination.

Not only will they be learning a valuable life skill, but it will be something they can practically use to keep them safe.

HOW? Our Junior classes are run with age-appropriate solutions and restrained techniques for young minds & bodies. These classes are separate from adult classes in the nature of the problems suitable for school-aged children as well as for them to grow with their social peers.

Our classes are far from the old days of katas, patterns, and doing lines of punching and kicking the air. Our training incorporates fun activities, drills and techniques – similar to the dynamic and exciting drills our adult classes enjoy – whilst delivering important self-defence training and molding strong, athletic bodies.

WHEN? Our Junior Krav Maga Self-Defence classes run with the school terms and are held once / week. Ensure to book your child’s spot into the next Junior Krav Maga Introduction session (FREE for new students) so they can get an understanding of how the techniques and drills work and will feel confident participating in regular training classes.

Law Enforcement Training

Specific and applicable Krav Maga / Kinetic Fighting tactics and techniques to better protect and serve the Police & Law Enforcement Officer!

WHY? The Law Enforcement field faces violence more often as an inherent part of their job, and have a different role and objectives than Civilians in a Self-Defence encounter.
A Police Officer has many tools on their belt to assist them with their tasks; often to be applied under stressful, violent encounters. Krav Maga/Kinetic Fighting is another “tool” on the Police Officer’s belt, giving them more options on achieving outcomes or to better defend themselves.
Krav Maga is often used by militaries and special police units around the world, and Kinetic Fighting by current Australian & NZ militaries.

HOW? By bringing together the principles, tactics and techniques from Krav Maga & Kinetic Fighting – the Police Officer can have more confidence in their abilities in responding to stressful and dangerous situations.

Primal Krav Maga looks at appropriate combatives, grappling, defences vs weapons, restraining techniques, integration of duty belt tools, tactics and decision making in fast, close-quarter environments.
These additional techniques and tactics particular to Law Enforcement, assist an Officer’s competency operating under less stress and applying appropriate outcomes along the force continuum – without having to draw on higher or more lethal force.

WHEN? Regular Self-Defence classes and Topic classes cover many of the fundamental techniques and tactics that will help serve to protect a Police Officer against the types of realistic attacks. We have many Police Officer’s currently training in our classes and attending our seminars, however, our particular Law Enforcement training is tailored more for the protocols and objectives of an officer.

WHY? Weekly regular classes are great for the tactics of dealing with multiple attackers and the dynamics of working with different partners.

However for those where classes do not fit into your schedule or want personalised and focused training, Private Training is available with our Israeli-trained and accredited Expert Krav Maga Instructor. For some people this is their fastest path to improving their techniques and understanding.

HOW? Private Training can be arranged to be 1 on 1, or you can train with a friend or small group. Discounted rates for more people in the Private Training session and for longer sessions.

WHEN? On location in Brisbane CBD at Primal Gym in our specialised Krav Maga & Fitness facility.
Travel to outside/parks PT training also available from Inner Brisbane suburbs (subject to timetable availability).
