What Is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a practical self-defence system which teaches how to realistically prevent, deal and overcome all kinds of violence and attacks. It prepares the trainees in the subjects of self-defence, street fighting and tactical skills as well as the skills to defend others – all in a unique and comprehensive teaching model.

Krav Maga is easy to learn and retain – its techniques are performed from natural body reactions and motions to allow one to react quickly and decisively under duress. Krav Maga follows the nature of how realistic attacks occur and operates on survival, not sport fighting conditions.

Training is done taking into account “unknown variables” that include how to deal with: bigger/stronger assailants, multiple opponents, modern civilian and military weapons, reacting when unprepared, and defending attacks from any angle or position.

Think of Krav Maga training as your “Life Insurance Policy”.

History of Krav Maga

“Krav Maga” in Hebrew means “Contact Combat” and was originally developed for the military and special forces units in Israel.  Krav Maga was founded by Imi Lichtenfeld (Sde-Or) who developed the system whilst fighting anti-semitic forces during the fascist period of the 1930s in his native Bratislava. After escaping Nazi Europe, Imi immigrated to Palestine.

He began teaching physical fitness, self-defence and fighting for the early elite military units, and eventually became the Chief Instructor for Physical Fitness & Krav Maga for the IDF. After retiring from the military, he devoted his life to developing and furthering Krav Maga as a living and practical way for anyone to defend oneself.

Imi believed that everyone had the right to protect themselves and Krav Maga started to spread to the world:

“So that one may walk in peace.” -Imi Lichtenfeld

What is Kinetic Fighting / Army Combatives?

Primal Krav Maga & Self-Defence, also have certified instructors for Kinetic Fighting – the official combative system for the Australian & NZ Defence Force (known as ACP).

Kinetic Fighting–Integrated Combat (KEF–IC) is a system of mental and physical training, designed to instil a survival mindset while developing the skill sets to support it. Our instructors’ mission is to provide you with the framework and understanding needed to develop the skills taught, as well as your existing skill sets, for effective application in self-protection or on operational duty. The training closely mirrors that of the Army Combatives training of the ADF, with a focus more on personal combatives whilst maintaining the principles of ACP.

This training is integrated into our regular self-defence classes, and stand-alone classes, including also running official KEF Seminar modules for rank progression.
